This is the poetry written by Akiko Yosano in 1904.
It was in the middle of the Russo–Japanese War （10 February 1904 – 5 September 1905)
I think that this is bravery, even if there were not so much suppression as Manchurian Incident.
I tried to translate this poetry↓
Please stay alive / Akiko Yosano
Oh, my brother, I cry for you.
Please stay alive.
You are the youngest, and
the cutest little baby boy for our parent.
Did your Mom & Dad teach you to
grab a knife and kill some body?
Did they raise you up until age 24 for
" killing some body & kill yourself" ?
Born in a family of pedigree
as a marchant in Osaka
Please stay alive
because you are the heir of our family
Please don't mind, If the castle fall down or not
You might not know any rule of merchant family
There are no entry about "killing some body & kill yourself"
Oh, my little brother, Please stay alive.
emperor wouldn't sortie himself to the war
we shed our blood each other
Saying that '' Die in the trail "
I don't believe that is our honor
I don't even believe that is emperor's idea at all
Knowing that he is liberal person
Oh my brother stay alive
Our father died last fall
Our mom is feeling sadness deep in her heart
Her son was taken by war & trying to protect our family
She is getting so much gray hair
In the age of emperor that they say secured for sometime
Your bride who is not really strong
She is hiding behind the sign of our business and crying
Did you forget her or thinking about her?
You only got to live together for 10 months
You need to have consideration for young woman's mind
She has no one to rely on
Oh, my brother please don't die.
